   San Francisco Acatepec Minimize

The mexican design displayed on this work drives your image to think about the labor and hours involved to model, glaze, paint and fire every one of the Talavera tiles, which do not have the same size or shape, and later on replacing and remaking the broken tiles during decoration process.

The City of Cholula was called the city of Quetzalcoatl, who was the most famous prehispanic god in Mexico, and the most sacred city in the Aztec Empire.

Cholula is the mexican city where Hernan Cortes in 1519, on his way to the aztec capital city, stopped by and visited the city, and declared Cholula the most beatiful city outside Spain because the splendor of its outstanding temples and the luxury at its palaces as well the magnificent view of the nearby volcanoes and flower fields. Cholula was the place where Cortes was about to die but saved his life thanks to Malinche, his translator and lover, who informed Cortes about an aztec conspiracy against his life inside the city walls.

Bernal Diaz del Castillo, who was a Cortes' soldier, wrote a famous book describing all events happeneded in the city and how much beauty spaniards found in its market and local craftsmanship.

  

   Santa Maria Tonanzintla Minimize

Santa Maria Tonanzintla ChurchSanta Maria Tonanzintla church represents the most outstanding example of native baroque in Mexico. Church walls and ceiling recreates a native heaven in order to explain to local people as well to the visitors what is the local catholic faith by using a native code. Faces of children, angels, saints, flowers and fruits get together in unusual play of colors and expressions. There is not another plastic artistic expression like this in all Mexico.

Los Remedios Church was built on top of the Piramyd of Cholula and houses the main religious devotion in Cholula that is to honor Our Lady in the name of Remedios. The church was built and the end of the 16th century but the original temple suffered a natural disaster therefore had to be rebuilt at the late 1860's. Every first week of September there is a big celebration that involves processions coming from all the Cholula region.

The first pyramid builders were the Olmec-Xicalancas. Teotihuacan influence is found at the complex as well. The Toltecs added more section to the main section around the 12th century. Cholula Pyramid is considered the biggest in all the Americas and one of the biggests in the world.
