   Carnival Fiestas in Tlaxcala Minimize

Dancers in TlaxcalaCarnival Fiestas in Tlaxcala take place in different towns throughout the state. The origin of the celebrations goes back to times when local natives (Tlaxcaltecos), watching the Spanish "dons" celebrating Carnival at luxurious parties from which they were excluded, made their own the Carnival celebrations, dancing on the streets, churches' atriums or plazas wearing colorful clothes and masks to make fun of the high class.

The name of some Carnival dresses are: Los Catrines, Los Charros, Las Cintas, Los Chivarrudos an so on.

Carnival Fiestas in Puebla City Minimize

Carnival in PueblaCarnival Fiestas in Puebla take place in the old neighborhoods and also in Downtown. The origin of the celebration goes back to the strong presence of native Nahua groups in the city since the beginning of the construction of Puebla by them. The natives working in the city and living next to the Spanish ruling caste of Puebla were segregated, so they made their own the Carnival celebrations, making fun of the high class by wearing clothes and masks satirizing high society.

   Carnival Fiestas in Huejotzingo Minimize

Huejotzingo Carnival Masks

The modern Carnival Fiestas in Huejotzingo began during the second part of the 19th century yet they retain strong prehispanic ingredients. The indigenous roots of the fiestas lie in the local natives (Huejotzingos) celebrating war victories over their enemies or thanking the gods for successful harvests. But the Carnival of Huejotzingo has been transformed throughout time by remembering events of local  history such as the victory of the Mexican Army over the French on 5 of Mayo 1862 in Puebla, the Rapture of the Huejotzingo's mayor's daughter by a thief, and the first Catholic Wedding rites to take place in America.

The name of some Carnival dresses are: Los Zacapoaxtlas, Zapadores, Apaches, Indios and so on.
